Scaleworks Acquires Nextopia, Leader in Real-time E-commerce Recommendations and Personalization

We’re excited to announce that Scaleworks has made its second acquisition from Fund II. Joining the family is a leader in e-commerce search technology, with specific expertise in real-time recommendation and personalization, Nextopia.

“Every step of the customer journey in e-commerce has a big impact on sales - from search to landing pages to merchandising. With Nextopia and SearchSpring we are assembling the best-of-breed toolset to help merchants of all size sell as effectively as the biggest players.” Lew Moorman, Scaleworks General Partner and Co-founder, had to say on the latest move.

Peter Messana, also the CEO of SearchSpring, will be leading the company. While there are no current plans to merge the two entities, there are powerful and unique ways that each can move the needle for ecommerce and direct-to-consumer brands in selling their items online.

Here’s an explainer on what Nextopia does extremely well:

“Much like the acquisition of SearchSpring, the technology is very strong, especially the personalization and product recommendations. Nextopia is very strong with differing customer segments and has focused on B2B and product recommendations, something we see as great growth opportunities.” Messana shared.

The company currently works with well-respected brands such as Delta Apparel, Wrigleyville Sports, Geiger, Global Healing Center, BENQ, NewAge Products,, Jimmy Jazz, Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores, Toys R Us, Party Delights, Tommy John, Noritake, The Tie Bar, Paul Fredrick and Gerber.

Nextopia’s founder and outgoing CEO, Sanjay Arora, shared this on Nextopia’s blog today: “Today, I am excited to announce the next chapter in the growth of Nextopia and the platform. This new chapter will see continued investment and product innovation advancing our machine learning and AI and entering new markets like B2B. Today, Nextopia becomes part of the Scaleworks family, equipped with the resources for continued advancement.”

“I couldn’t be more excited to pick up where Sanjay has taken Nextopia and build upon the framework to continue to aggressive growth” said Messana, adding “the search, merchandising and recommendations space is evolving and both Nextopia and SearchSpring continue to lead the charge”.
